Do Christians get the Holy Spirit when Baptized?

romans 8 9

Many Church of Christ members wrongfully think that Christians get the Holy Spirit when they are baptized (by looking at some verse in Acts where people are asked if they have received the HS since they believed), not when we believe, because they fail to recognize that the book of Acts is a transitionary book going from one testament and one covenant to another. In other words there were people who believed in Christ as savior before Acts. Those people were asked if they received the Holy Spirit since they believed because the HS was not given or available to them when they first believed. They still needed to receive the HS but now it is given when we believe. There simply are not two classes of believers, those with and without the HS. Now if one does not have the HS he is not saved.

Rom 8:9-11 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. and if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit

Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in You?

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1Jn 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

  1. Yep, people in the New Testament received the Holy Spirit before,during,or after baptism. They were all saved by faith prior baptism. I have met a lot of baptized pagans in the COC. They boasted that their water baptism saved them and not faith in Christ.They said that since they had Jesus,they did not need the Holy Spirit.

  2. Hi gain Gary, TY for commenting again. I agree with you. Did you know that baptismal regeneration was the cause of the Roman Catholic Church killing millions of anabaptist and the doctrine has it’s root in pagan Babylon.

    Here are a couple of articles I have not posted over to this blog yet. The first one talks about it and the second one talks about CoC’ers and the Holy Spirit. TY again for visiting. I will be at this for the long haul so feel free to follow by email if you like.
